In October 2009, Jones was taken into custody by Drug Enforcement Administration agents on charges of drug trafficking. He was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute. On December 16, 2010, Jones pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sell more than 10,000 oxycodone pills. Jones was the "Hollywood connection" in a plot to illegally purchase and distribute the drug, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court. Jones faced up to 21 years in federal prison.

On June 22, 2011, Jones was sentenced to 366 days in federal prison, receiving leniency from the Judge due to the "minor role" he played in the plot. Federal prosecutors had initially requested a 5-year prison term. On December 6, 2011, Jones began serving his sentence at the Lompoc Correctional Complex in California. He was subsequently transferred to a federal community corrections facility in Long Beach, California. He was released on October 12, 2012 after serving 10 months in prison.
