When someone you care about gets locked up, it's tough to figure out all the ins and outs of jail life. From sending mail to visiting, there are a lot of things to sort out. And getting info about the arrest? Not always easy. That's where this webpage comes in handy. It's here to help you get a handle on how things work at Allegheny County PA Jail - 2nd Avenue so you can stay connected and support your loved one behind bars.
The Allegheny Co Jail-2nd Ave is a detention center located at 950 2nd Ave Pittsburgh, PA which is operated locally by the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Allegheny County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Pittsburgh Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Pennsylvania here.
The services of Allegheny County Jail-2nd Ave for inmates and former inmates support re-entry into the community and reduce recidivism. Through funding provided through the Jail Collaborative, we work with the Department of Human Services (DHS), the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD), court officials, service providers, ex-offenders, faith-based community organizations, families and the community at large.
Original articles of mail and photographs will be held at the Allegheny County Jail for a period of thirty days and destroyed thereafter.

Money Orders
Returning funds to released inmates: The Cashier's Office is notified when released inmates are waiting in the main lobby for their funds. Released inmates receive a check for any amount owed that's over $10 and they receive cash for any amount owed that's less than $10. In the evening after the banks are closed, the inmate will receive some cash with a check for the remaining balance. For example, if a person is owed $50 dollars, he or she will receive up to $10 in cash with a check for the remaining balance. Hours for paying released inmates are 7:00am - 8:00 pm, Mon thru Fri.
We encourage released individuals to cash their check at the PNC bank located on the corner of Grant Street and Forbes Avenue. This PNC branch accepts the armband as a form of identification to cash checks. Please Note: After 10 days, money will only be turned over to an attorney or the Clerk of Courts.

Re-entry Services
Re-entry clients receive risk and need assessment and a service plan based on that assessment which they must follow with the guidance of a Jail Service Coordinator. Service Plans include re-entry classes, education classes, and substance abuse services available in the Jail or community for clients who have been released to Alternative Housing.
Two months before their minimum release date they may be assigned a Community Service Coordinator. From enrollment through six months post-release, each client is assigned a Re-Entry Probation Officer.
The client follows a Phase 2 service plan in the community which is developed by the Community Service Coordinator in collaboration with the Re-Entry Probation Officer and the Re-Entry staff they have worked with during Phase 1.
