The Clay Co Jail is a detention center located at 14 S Water St Liberty, MO which is operated locally by the Clay County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Clay County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Liberty Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Missouri here.

Telephone: If you have information or need information concerning an inmate, call (816) 407-3800. Inmates can make collect calls only between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. Incoming Mail: Books will be accepted into this facility if mailed from a publisher. Magazine subscriptions will be allowed with a preprinted label addressed to the inmate - get publisher direct magazines and puzzles here. We will return any mail to the sender that contains contraband. Get jail-approved 4 x 6 glossy pictures sent to your inmate.

Items we consider contraband include, but are not limited to, the following: plain or stamped envelopes, stamps, plastic cards/ID, plain sheets of paper, pens/pencils, hair, body fluids, Polaroid pictures, musical cards, stickers (on letter or envelope), post-it notes, cash, cashier checks, money orders or payroll checks, tobacco, any items with glue or tape, or pornographic photos or magazine pictures and photocopied books, depictions of gang activity, tattoo patterns, sexually explicit or inappropriate content. If the letter does not have a return address, it will be forwarded to the dead letter file at the post office.

Additional Information: Inmates are issued clothing, bedding, and personal hygiene items when incarcerated. Additional items can be purchased from the commissary as needed.

The following items may be accepted after incarceration, subject to search and approval: clothing for jury trial ONLY, new underclothes for female inmates – up to 3 pairs (must be new and still in original packaging, white sports bras only and white briefs only).

Visitation Information

All personal inmate visitation at the Detention Center takes place over video at no cost. Inmates’ visitation days are determined by the dayroom to which they are assigned. To determine an inmate’s dayroom assignment, call 816-407-3800. This is the visitation schedule:

ALL VISITS WILL BE ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS.

  • Inmates are allowed one visitation period per day on their assigned visiting day with a maximum of two visitors (three visitors are permitted if at least one of them is a juvenile).
  • Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • A state PHOTO ID is required; passports are accepted.
  • Visitors must arrive 30 minutes before visits to sign in. We will accept ID up to 30-40 minutes prior to a visitation period.
  • Each visitor is requested to remain at the Detention Center after signing in for a visit.
  • If the visitor leaves and is not in the building at the time the visits are called, the visit will be forfeited and the inmate will lose his/her visitation privilege for that day.
  • Visitors may not take anything upstairs.
  • Visitors must be dressed appropriately.
