Does anyone know what kind of charges an inmate could face with a contraband/drug charge while incarcerated?

It depends on the quantity and the substance. It also depends on how it was brought in. The guards will want to know how they were smuggled in and who helped. If the inmate is cooperative, then the penalty might be a few weeks in the SHU. If they don't cooperate, there might be actual charges where time could be added to their sentence, new release date and definitely they would be transferred far away from home so that visitation would be difficult on their family.
