My son has been in jail for a year now, should he ask to be sentenced or is this waiting time a good thing?

Hi, My son has been in jail for a year now, he is in for attempted murder times 2. We have no clue what hes facing. They keep moving his court dates for a later time and its been this way for a year. Should he ask to be sentenced already? or is this waiting time a good thing? Thank you for you time.

Attempted murder carries a hefty sentence (maybe 20 years or more depending on his criminal history). The time he is doing now will go towards the total imposed. There is no real rush unless he does not like doing his time in a county jail. We would advise him to speak with the attorney handling his case to find out what the prosecution wants. If he is set on pleading guilty, then of course, getting into the general population of the state prison will surely make his time go by with a better routine than he could have in county.
