Freddie Joe Nunn - NFL Defensive veteran; 20 years for cocaine trafficking

Former NFL player Freddie Joe Nunn was convicted by a Gray County jury Thursday, November 13, 2008 on a charge of possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams.

Nunn received a 20-year prison sentence, according to the office of Lynn Switzer, attorney for the 31st and 223rd Judicial Districts.

Nunn was arrested in December 2001 after a trooper pulled him over for speeding on Interstate 40 and found more than 400 grams of cocaine in a concealed compartment in vehicle, according to the Gray County District Attorney's Office.

Troopers reported Nunn had 30 pounds of cocaine valued between $600,000 and $1 million hidden under a false floor.

An Ohio FBI agent testified during the trial about his lengthy investigation of a drug-trafficking ring Nunn was linked to, DA officials said.

Nunn, a former 1985 first-round draft pick out of the University of Mississippi, was a former linebacker and defensive end with the Arizona Cardinals until 1993.

In 1994, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts where he ended his career.
