It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.
While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
The facility's primary goal is to ensure public safety while effectively housing offenders in a secure environment. It conducts diagnostic processing for male offenders and houses inmates assigned to the 90-day (S.T.E.P) program, as well as those under the Death Sentence (UDS) awaiting state-ordered executions. Additionally, it accommodates a Special Management Unit (SMU) with 192 beds.
In terms of housing, the facility comprises eight cellblocks with both double-bunked and single-bunked cells, along with seven dormitories. These accommodations cater to various categories of inmates, including the general population, a medical unit, and a 17-bed S.T.E.P unit for segregated transition education. The facility also hosts essential teams such as the C.E.R.T. Team, Tactical Squad, and Fire Station.
Work details for inmates include assignments at the Fire Station, General & Grounds Maintenance, Waste Water, Power House, Canine unit, and Laundry facilities. These programs aim to provide valuable vocational skills and contribute to the facility's operational needs.
A comprehensive range of programs is offered to support inmates' rehabilitation and personal development. This includes academic opportunities such as General Education Diploma, Remedial, Literacy, and Adult Basic Education, as well as on-the-job training (OJT). Counseling services encompass individual and group sessions, focusing on areas like Moral Reconation Therapy, Family Violence, and Thinking for a Change. Specialized programs such as Lifers Group, Matrix Relapse Prevention, and Re-Entry Skills Building are also provided, along with support groups like AA and Problem Solving. Additionally, inmates have access to Basic Computer Operations and a Career Center to enhance their employability upon release.
Recreational activities are available to promote physical and mental well-being among inmates. Various worship services, study groups, and pastoral counseling sessions cater to inmates' spiritual needs.
Through these programs and services, the facility aims to facilitate inmates' rehabilitation, prepare them for successful reintegration into society, and maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
Georgia Diagnostic Prison maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
