The CWR is overseen by the Alabama Department of Corrections and consists of six community-based programs that supervise both pre-sentenced and sentenced offenders, prioritizing public safety and cost-effective alternatives to incarceration. Working in collaboration with the Department's Work Release Center, located at 1780 AL Hwy 221 Camden, AL, and other criminal justice agencies, the division oversees thousands of offenders in the community.
The Camden Community Based Facility and Community Work Center, operated by the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC), serves as a minimum custody state prison facility designed to facilitate inmate involvement in community service. Opened to provide inmates with opportunities to contribute to society, the facility assigns inmates to local and state governmental agencies where they perform various tasks. In return for their work, inmates receive payment from these agencies.
In addition to community service assignments, the Camden CBF also offers a work release program. This program allows selected inmates to engage in gainful employment within the community under supervision, to assist them in preparing for release and facilitating their transition from institutionalized life to community living. Inmates interested in participating in the Work Release Program undergo an evaluation by a Classification Specialist who determines their eligibility.
Upon arrival at the work release facility, inmates are initially assigned to work within it. However, their participation in community employment is contingent upon approval and placement in a paying job. It's important to note that any public protests received regarding an inmate's participation in the Work Release Program may lead to reconsideration by the Alabama Department of Corrections, potentially resulting in the inmate being returned to a more restrictive facility or being denied the opportunity to work in the community.

Religious programs are also maintained by volunteers at the Camden CBF, offering inmates opportunities for spiritual growth and support. These programs contribute to the overall well-being and rehabilitation of the inmate population.
In summary, the Camden Community Based Facility and Community Work Center play a vital role in the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society. Through community service assignments, work release programs, and religious programs, the facility aims to equip inmates with the necessary skills and support to lead productive lives upon release.
