The Loxley Work Release is overseen by the Alabama Department of Corrections and consists of six community-based programs that supervise both pre-sentenced and sentenced offenders, prioritizing public safety and cost-effective alternatives to incarceration. Working in collaboration with the Department's Work Release Center, located at 14880 County Rd 64 Loxley, AL, and other criminal justice agencies, the division oversees thousands of offenders in the community.
The Loxley Community Based Facility and Community Work Center, operated by the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADC), is a minimum custody state prison facility designed to house low-risk/minimum custody inmates. Established in October 1995, the center's primary mission is to provide housing for inmates who perform community service work for various state, county, and city agencies. Additionally, the center offers substance abuse counseling and educational opportunities to support inmate rehabilitation efforts.
As a minimum custody facility, the Loxley Community Work Center emphasizes programs and initiatives aimed at assisting inmates in preparing for release and successfully reintegrating into the community. This includes participation in the "Work Release" program, which allows selected inmates to gain employment in the community while being supervised in a community-based facility during non-working hours. The program is tailored to help inmates transition from the structured environment of the institution to life outside of prison.
A Classification Specialist is responsible for explaining the qualifications and requirements for participation in the Work Release Program to inmates. Upon approval, inmates are provided with gainful employment opportunities and supervised accordingly. The program aims to instill valuable job skills, promote financial responsibility, and foster positive reintegration into society.
Overall, the Loxley Community Based Facility and Community Work Center plays a crucial role in the Alabama correctional system by offering rehabilitation programs and facilitating the transition of inmates back into the community as productive and law-abiding citizens.
