The Mobile Work Release is overseen by the Alabama Department of Corrections and consists of six community-based programs that supervise both pre-sentenced and sentenced offenders, prioritizing public safety and cost-effective alternatives to incarceration. Working in collaboration with the Department's Work Release Center, located at 2423 N Beltline Hwy Prichard, AL, and other criminal justice agencies, the division oversees thousands of offenders in the community.
The Mobile Community Based Facility and Community Work Center is a minimum custody state prison operated by the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC), providing housing and employment for Minimum-Community and Minimum-Out custody inmates. Situated in Mobile, the facility primarily houses Minimum-Community custody inmates who hold positions with private-sector employers across Mobile and Baldwin counties.
Inmates assigned to Minimum-Out custody perform community work projects with local state, county, and city agencies, contributing to various community service initiatives. The facility emphasizes vocational training and education, offering trade school and ATEF programs to prepare inmates for industrial employment opportunities in the area. Inmates earn competitive wages while participating in Aftercare, NA/AA, and GED classes, with an intensive SAP program available for those in need of substance abuse treatment.
The Work Release Program allows selected inmates to engage in gainful employment in the community, supervised by the facility when not working. Participants contribute a portion of their earnings to cover program costs, including transportation fees, medical co-pays, drug testing fees, and laundry services. Deductions for court-ordered payments such as restitution, court costs, and child support are also made from their wages.
Overall, the Mobile Community Based Facility and Community Work Center aims to facilitate the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society by providing employment opportunities, vocational training, and support services.
