The Apache Co Jail is a detention center located at 370 S Washington St. Johns, AZ which is operated locally by the Apache County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Apache County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, St. Johns Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

Completed on July 7, 1991, the Apache County Jail is a multifaceted correctional facility designed to accommodate inmates of varying security levels, including minimum, medium, and maximum security for both male and female detainees. The facility is thoughtfully equipped with handicap-accessible cells, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all inmates. Each housing area within the jail is fitted with telephones, enabling inmates to make collect and phone-card calls, thus facilitating communication with the outside world.

The Apache County Jail offers a variety of essential amenities and services to its inmates. A commissary is available, allowing inmates to purchase personal items and necessities. For recreational and educational purposes, the jail provides a recreational yard and a library. There is also an attorney-client room, ensuring that inmates have the opportunity for confidential legal consultations. Visitation is managed through a non-contact visiting area, promoting security while allowing inmates to maintain connections with their families and friends. The facility includes a medical care room to address health concerns, a laundry to maintain hygiene, and a maintenance shop to support the upkeep of the facility.

The mission of the Apache County Jail is centered on providing safe, secure, constitutional, and humane care for both pre-trial and sentenced inmates under the custody of the Apache County Sheriff’s Office. The facility also aims to maintain a professional environment for its staff, emphasizing security and professionalism. It is important to note that the jail's role is not to legislate, render legal judgment, or impose punishment, but rather to ensure the wellbeing and rights of those in its custody are upheld.
