At AR DOC-Northwest Arkansas Work Release Center's state corrections facility, well-behaved inmates can join a work release program, getting regular jobs in the public sector during the day. Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.

This program has perks like better chances of finding a job after getting out, finding work faster, making more money afterward, and being less likely to go back to jail. NWA-WRC wants to help inmates succeed in getting back into society.

The Northwest Arkansas Work Release Center accommodates around 100 minimum security offenders. Inmates at this facility are granted the opportunity to work in the surrounding community and return to the institution after their work shift. This arrangement is part of their preparation for eventual release. Eligibility for the work release program is restricted to inmates who are within 42 months of their release or initial parole hearing and are classified as class I-A non-violent offenders.

While most inmates are ineligible for work release due to the nature of their crimes, those who qualify experience a semblance of freedom as they work in real-world settings, often with minimal supervision from Department of Corrections personnel.
