While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

Safford's diverse work crews extend to initiatives like the Wildland Fire Crew, Healthy Forest Initiative, and cattle operations, contributing to community betterment and beautification endeavors. In terms of education, the facility offers Adult Basic Education, GED, and high school diploma programs, complemented by additional courses provided by Eastern Arizona College, Rio Salado Community College, and Ashland University. Moreover, a range of treatment and self-improvement programs are available to inmates, including substance abuse counseling, cognitive restructuring, 12-step programs, and peer facilitation sessions. Convergent Case Management (CCM) and Reentry Prep initiatives aim to equip inmates with the necessary skills and support systems to facilitate successful rehabilitation and integration back into society upon release.
