The Burton MI Police Department, located at 4090 Manor Drive Burton, MI, serves as the primary law enforcement agency for the community, ensuring public safety through crime prevention, investigation, and emergency response. While the department processes individuals who have been arrested, it does not maintain holding cells for extended detention. After the booking process, which includes fingerprinting, photographing, and processing necessary documentation, arrestees are promptly transferred to a nearby county or regional jail for housing. The Burton Police Department is a progressive agency serving approximately 30,000 citizens residing in an area of 23.5 square miles. The Department employs 39 sworn personnel, three non-sworn support staff, and a chaplain. The department has two divisions, Patrol and Investigations. A lieutenant commands each division.
Three sergeants are assigned to the Patrol Division, one for each shift. The division has assignments to accident reconstruction, K-9 tracking and drug detection, Field Training and F.A.N.G. (Flint Area Narcotics Group).
The Investigations Division has three permanently assigned detectives.
