The Charlotte Co Jail is a detention center located at 26601 Airport Rd Punta Gorda, FL which is operated locally by the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Charlotte County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Punta Gorda Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Charlotte County Jail was established in February 2001 with a capacity to accommodate 1,074 inmates. It operates as a direct supervision facility, distinguishing itself from conventional jails by having officers stationed inside housing units to foster direct interaction with inmates, deter negative behavior, and efficiently manage living units housing up to 64 inmates each.

This full-service facility includes amenities such as a kitchen, laundry, and medical and dental services. It features a video courtroom for first appearances, arraignments, and bond hearings. Accredited by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, the facility adheres to Florida Jail Model Standards and relevant statutes.

The Charlotte County Jail offers various education, counseling, and social service programs through its Inmate Programs Section, which schedules activities aimed at alleviating tension, providing constructive engagement, and fostering positive inmate attitudes toward incarceration. These voluntary programs, including educational and specialty offerings, aim to enhance rehabilitation and personal development.

Information about program descriptions and schedules is accessible online via the Inmate Communication devices within the units. Housing Unit Deputies are available to address inquiries regarding program availability and requirements. However, refusal to attend a program after enrollment may result in a $10.00 debit to the inmate's account.
