The Clark Co Jail is a detention center located at 221 W 9th Ave Ashland, KS which is operated locally by the Clark County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Clark County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Ashland Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
Upon arrest, individuals are transported to the Clark County Jail for booking and subsequent incarceration. The jail's primary objective is to ensure the secure and safe housing of inmates while meeting their basic needs throughout their detention.
Inmates are required to adhere to established rules and regulations during their time at the facility. The Clark County Jail is organized into distinct housing areas based on a classification system that determines the appropriate housing location for each inmate. This system ensures that male and female inmates are housed separately at all times.
The facility accommodates both pre-trial detainees and post-conviction inmates, including those serving sentences or awaiting transfer to the Kansas Department of Corrections. Additionally, the Clark County Jail houses inmates from neighboring counties as well as individuals detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Inmates at the Clark County Jail are provided with access to a commissary once a week, specifically on Wednesdays. Commissary access is a privilege and may be suspended or revoked at the discretion of the facility. Inmates may receive cash or money orders through the mail to fund their commissary accounts.
The facility allows certain personal items to be brought in for inmates. These include up to three pairs of white socks, three white t-shirts, three pairs of white boxers or underwear, and three white bras without underwire. No additional items are permitted unless prior approval is obtained from the sheriff. Unauthorized items received will be returned at the inmate's expense.
Personal belongings left at the facility will be retained for 30 days following the inmate’s release or transfer to another institution. After this period, any unclaimed items will be disposed of by the staff.
