The Community Corrections Division Cocoa CRC in Brevard County is privately owned and contracted by government lease and consists of six community-based programs that supervise both pre-sentenced and sentenced offenders, prioritizing public safety and cost-effective alternatives to incarceration. Working in collaboration with the Work Release Center located at 585 Camp Rd Florida, FL, and other criminal justice agencies, the division oversees thousands of offenders in the community.
The Release Center provides program beds for 84 male inmates, that provide intensive substance abuse treatment and value-added services to men with a remaining sentence of 18 months. The CRC offers them an opportunity to reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives. Central to the program is the Therapeutic Community Concepts, which emphasize maintaining a drug-free lifestyle within a supportive social environment. Under clinical supervision, this peer-led approach encourages active participation in recovery among the men.
Participants in the Community Release program are employed during the day and can opt to engage in education, vocational training, and substance abuse treatment courses during their off time or in the evenings after work. Inmates in the program contribute to their room and board expenses, thereby alleviating costs for taxpayers. They also fulfill court-ordered payments, financially support their families, and are encouraged to save money for their eventual release.
The center offers a range of substance abuse treatment and value-added services aimed at teaching problem-solving, critical thinking, conflict resolution, and recovery maintenance skills. The specific program offerings vary across facilities to cater to the individual needs of the participants.
Some of the programs and value-added services available include addiction education, adult basic education, Alcoholics Anonymous, anger management, Bible studies, job placement assistance, Narcotics Anonymous, OSHA certification, and substance abuse treatment. Additionally, community re-entry services, family development, and reunification programs are provided to facilitate successful transitions back into society.
The center collaborates with various community partners and organizations to enhance the support network for program participants. Partnerships with entities such as Brevard County Fire Rescue, local churches, educational institutions, and workforce development agencies contribute to the holistic approach to rehabilitation and reintegration.
