Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.

The Darlington County Prison Camp is dedicated to preparing inmates for reentry into society by fostering a structured work environment that emphasizes accountability and life management skills. The facility aims to create a healthy, well-organized setting where inmates are encouraged to engage positively with their community and understand the value of constructive involvement with others.
Built in the early 1930s, the Darlington County Prison Farm is a minimum-security facility housing 51 male inmates. These inmates utilize their skills within the Darlington County Government employment system, gaining vocational experience through job assignments. Additionally, the facility offers educational opportunities, including literacy programs, GED preparation, Work Keys, and life-coaching sessions. Inmates also have the chance to participate in social events, such as church services held at the facility.
Designated as a Facility under the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC), the Darlington County Prison Camp has a contractual agreement to house state inmates while they serve their sentences. Both the Prison Camp and SCDC meticulously screen inmates before any transfer to ensure compliance with all relevant rules, regulations, and statutes, including those of the SCDC, state, and federal laws. This thorough screening process is outlined in the Designated Facility Inmate Assignments and Transfers policy (OP-21-05).
