The Delaware Co Jail is a detention center located at 844 US Hwy 42 N Delaware, OH which is operated locally by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Delaware County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Delaware Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The 286-bed Delaware County Jail accommodates both male and female inmates, offering various programs such as re-entry, literacy, and GED preparation. The facility also provides chaplaincy services, counseling, mentoring, and a trusty program for selected inmates. When an offender is arrested on new charges or a municipal court warrant, their initial court appearance occurs the following business day via televised video arraignment (TVA). Those wishing to attend must go to Municipal Court, located at 70 N. Union St., Delaware, 43015, on the 2nd floor. TVA is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Mondays and 10:00 a.m. from Tuesday to Friday. If an inmate is ordered to be released due to a warrant discharge, the release cannot proceed until all necessary paperwork is processed, which may take up to four hours depending on the court’s caseload. Inmates generally have the opportunity to make a phone call to arrange for transportation at the time of their release.
Commissary orders at the Delaware County Jail are placed on Tuesday mornings and delivered on Wednesday afternoons. To ensure funds are available for these orders, money must be deposited into an inmate's account by the evening before the orders are placed. Additional court or case information can be obtained by contacting Municipal Court at 740-203-1550, or Common Pleas at 740-833-2530 or 2550, or visiting the Delaware County Clerk's website. Medication for inmates can be brought to the jail in the original prescription bottle bearing the inmate’s name. The control room officer will arrange for a nurse to accept the medication. For inmates scheduled for a jury trial, clothing can be dropped off at the jail. The control room officer will facilitate the handover to an officer who will accept the clothing.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate.
