The Detroit Reentry Center (DRC) in Detroit, MI, focuses on successful offender reintegration into society, crucial for effective crime control. Reentry and Treatment Centers offer structured environments and various programs aiding rehabilitation and community reconnection efforts. Collaborating with the Wayne Sheriff's Department, the Michigan Department of Corrections, and sometimes the US Marshal Service/Federal Bureau of Prisons, comprehensive reentry services prioritize education, substance abuse treatment, and workforce development. Facilities assist officers in monitoring compliance and serve as alternatives to pretrial detention, considering cost-effectiveness and reducing overcrowding. Emphasizing individual needs, family support, and community integration, the center aims for holistic support, empowering successful reintegration.
The Detroit Reentry Center houses level II adult male state inmates run by the Michigan Department of Corrections is located on the east side of the city. The 39 acres of land the facility is situated was previously used by Daimler Chrysler AG to store automobiles. The facility contains buildings for housing, educational and vocational instruction, food services, a health clinic, dialysis unit, administrative offices, warehouse storage, MSI factory, and security. Inmates are able to take educational programs to learn to read, earn an adult basic education and GED. Vocational training is available for inmates in food services from the preparation of the food to serving it. The prison has a small segregation unit and is separated from the surrounding area by a six-foot landscaped berm with evergreen and deciduous trees.
Programming - The institution's academic program provides for special and remedial education as well as General Education Development completion for all prisoners, including those in segregation. The educational program priority is to develop reading skills for each prisoner to the eighth-grade level. Vocational training includes an on-the-job training program for porters and food service. The vocational food technology program serves meals as part of the training. About 200 community volunteers help staff in providing prisoners with faith-based programming.
Health care is provided at the prison, at the Duane L. Waters Health Care in Jackson MI or at local hospitals in the event of emergencies.
Security - Security is provided by two 12-foot fences, electronic detection systems, razor-ribbon wire, gun towers and buffer fencing.

Visiting Hours
Monday, Thursday and Friday are 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Weekend visits are according to an odd/even schedule, based on the last digit of the prisoner's number.
If the number ends in an odd digit that prisoner may have visitation only on the odd dated weekend day.
