The Dunn Co Jail is a detention center located at 615 Stokke Pkwy Menomonie, WI which is operated locally by the Dunn County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Dunn County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Menomonie Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The Dunn County Jail is designed to house both sentenced and non-sentenced male and female inmates. The facility aims to protect the community, ensure inmate accountability, and build competency to help inmates live responsibly and productively once released. The Dunn County Jail operates in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with Wisconsin State Statutes, Department of Corrections Standards, and the Constitution of the United States.
The court may grant Huber/Work release privileges to inmates sentenced to the Dunn County Jail. This privilege allows inmates to maintain employment, continue supporting their families, and meet other obligations while confined. Upon reporting to the Dunn County Jail, inmates receive a Huber Information Packet, including a list of prohibited items, employment rules, medical rules, deviation information, education forms, childcare forms, and transportation forms. These forms can also be accessed online, and inmates are encouraged to complete them ahead of time to understand what is allowed.
There is no charge for required tests done at the jail; however, if tests are conducted elsewhere, the inmate bears the cost. Inmates participating in childcare or attending school as part of their Huber privilege are billed the same as working Huber inmates. To maintain Huber privileges, inmates must keep their Huber bill current, with payments made weekly to avoid going into debt.
When reporting to the Dunn County Jail, sentenced inmates must make a $25.00 deposit. Work Release Form and work schedules must be verified and completed weekly or monthly. The jail garden is maintained by Huber/Work Release inmates who have not yet found employment or who volunteer on their days off. These inmates are monitored by volunteers, and the garden's proceeds are donated to the Food Pantry, overseen by the Jail Program Director and community volunteers.
