At East Boise Community Reentry Center (EBCRC)'s state corrections facility, well-behaved inmates can join a work release program, getting regular jobs in the public sector during the day. Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.
This program has perks like better chances of finding a job after getting out, finding work faster, making more money afterward, and being less likely to go back to jail. EBCRC wants to help inmates succeed in getting back into society.
Established in July 1980, the East Boise Community Reentry Center (EBCRC) stands as Idaho's inaugural reentry center. Initially opening its doors as a mixed-gender facility, it transitioned to an all-female institution in September 1989. Over the years, the center underwent expansion, with a new addition constructed in 2002 to accommodate more residents. Presently, the facility houses 108 female inmates classified under minimum and community custody levels.
Aligned with the Idaho Department of Correction's mission to ensure safety, accountability, partnerships, and opportunities for offender change, the leadership at EBCRC is dedicated to supporting successful reintegration into society. Inmates at the facility are granted access to various programs and resources aimed at facilitating their transition back into the community. These include community-based employment opportunities, treatment programs, support groups, community service initiatives, and other avenues to foster positive and constructive engagement. Through these efforts, EBCRC endeavors to empower inmates to make meaningful contributions to their communities and lead law-abiding lives upon release.
