The Faulkner Co Jails is a detention center located at 801 Locust St Conway, AR which is operated locally by the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Faulkner County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Conway Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Faulkner County Detention Centers consist of two primary units: Unit One, a maximum-security facility located at 801 Locust St with a capacity to hold 118 adult male detainees, and Unit Two, situated at 500 S German Ln, which handles booking and houses up to 218 male and 88 female inmates. Unit Two also serves as the primary booking facility, where the intake process begins under the custody and supervision of the county sheriff, as mandated by Arkansas Statute 12-41-502.

Unit Two's booking process includes several key functions. Intake involves initiating a booking record for each detainee, whether under arrest or court-committed. Identification procedures follow, during which fingerprints and photographs are taken and maintained. The classification includes assessments for appropriate housing assignments, along with suicide prevention screening and medical or mental health referrals if necessary. Inmate supervision is conducted under a direct supervision model, where detainees are observed throughout the booking process. Property management ensures that all belongings taken at intake are securely stored and tracked, with all items returned upon discharge. During discharge, all property is returned to detainees, along with any funds that were held, as the detainees are released from the facility.

Detainees at the Faulkner County Detention Center are permitted to receive both legal and personal mail, with specific addresses designated for each type of correspondence. Legal mail should be sent to 810 Amity Rd, Conway, AR 72034, while all other personal mail should be directed to 500 S. Amity Suite B, Conway, AR 72034. Each piece of correspondence must include the detainee’s full name and the correct address to ensure proper delivery.

After processing, inmates are assigned to a housing area based on classification. Compliance with jail rules typically results in a lower classification and more privileges, while rule violations or additional charges lead to a higher classification and fewer privileges. Inmates serving as trustees within the jail undertake various tasks, including cooking, laundry, and commissary management, often receiving minimal compensation or sentence reduction for their services.

The jail is designed with "pods," featuring a large common area with affixed tables and attached seats, and individual cells typically on two levels. Inmates spend certain times in their cells and other times congregating in the pod for activities like playing cards, games, reading, or watching television. Movement outside the pod, such as trips to the commissary, library, or recreation area, occurs under the constant supervision of unarmed correctional officers. The environment in the county jail is considered less stressful than that of a prison because the sentences are much shorter.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

For phone communication, detainees have access to phones located in designated day rooms from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. All calls must be made either collected or through a pre-approved account. As a security measure, all phone calls are recorded and may be monitored. This setup allows detainees to maintain contact with their legal representatives and personal contacts within the parameters of facility regulations. The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Inmate workers are chosen based on conduct and cooperation with staff. Participation in the community service program can sometimes reduce sentences. Commissary is available weekly, with orders submitted via kiosk two days in advance. On holidays, there may be increased spending limits. Upon receiving commissary items, inmates must present their ID, check their order, and sign for it in the presence of the commissary employee. Indigent inmates are provided with all essential basic hygiene items including USPS stamps and writing materials.

Visitation Information

The Faulkner County Detention Center's Unit Two has transitioned exclusively to video visitation, except for attorney conferences and other special visits approved by the Jail Administrator. Video visitation privileges are available only to detainees who have been processed through the Booking Department and placed in the general population. Participation is a privilege, not a right, and both detainees and visitors are expected to conduct themselves appropriately.

Faulkner County reserves the authority to deny, cancel, or terminate a video visit if the conduct is deemed inappropriate. Furthermore, the County may restrict visitors from future use of the video system based on their behavior. Strict prohibitions are in place against nudity and provocative clothing, with violations leading to indefinite suspension of visitation privileges. Recording or taking photographs during video visits is also strictly forbidden, with any such infractions resulting in suspension.

All video visitations are recorded and may be monitored by authorized personnel from the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office, and participation indicates consent to this monitoring. To access video visitation, phone calls, or commissary services, users can register through:

  • JailATM.com for video calls and electronic messaging.
  • Accesscorrections.com to add funds for commissary purchases.
  • Correct Solutions for phone call services.

Funds for detainee accounts can also be deposited in person at the Unit One facility (801 Locust Street) or Unit Two (500 S. German Lane). These services ensure detainees can maintain communication and access essentials within the facility, under the structured regulations set by Faulkner County.
