The FDJJ-Crestview Youth Academy (YA) Substance Abuse Secure Program is within the jurisdiction of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice located at 4449 Straightline Rd, Crestview, FL.

The facility provides supervision of youth in a safe, secure and humane environment. Services for youth include education, mental health, substance abuse, and health care. Medical and mental health are contracted services. Educational services are funded by the Florida Department of Education through local school districts.

A typical day in secure detention would involve hygiene, meals, school, structured physical and educational activities, and court appearance as scheduled. The average length of stay in secure state detention is approximately 60 days.

The Crestview Youth Academy (CYA) Substance Abuse Program is a secure residential facility catering to 30 male individuals aged between 14 and 21. It focuses primarily on providing Substance Abuse Treatment Services to youths with substance abuse needs, including potential co-occurring substance-related disorders. Clinical mental health staff deliver these services with an emphasis on addressing security concerns relevant to the youths' legal status, ensuring their care, safety, and protection in an environment conducive to healthy development.

The anticipated duration of stay at CYA varies based on the individual's progress in achieving their personalized treatment plan and goals. Academic and career education services are integral to the program's offerings. CYA operates as a Type 3 program, offering core subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, along with one elective course. This elective course typically provides additional reading support or vocational training opportunities.

Education and vocational services are facilitated through the Okaloosa County School District, providing career training in areas such as Masonry, Electronics Technician, Carpentry, and Horticulture. Additionally, CYA serves as a GED® test site, allowing individuals to pursue further educational attainment.

For youths requiring extended care under the Department of Juvenile Justice's supervision, residential facilities across Florida provide the necessary support. Placement is determined by the commitment plan rather than the location of the arrest, with assistance available from the child's Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) in identifying the appropriate facility.

Operated by contracted provider Youth Opportunity Investments, LLC, CYA offers a comprehensive range of services. For further information on the Department of Juvenile Justice's oversight, administration, and residential services, individuals can contact Lori Jernigan, Assistant Secretary of Residential Services, at lori.jernigan@fldjj.gov or (850) 394-7634.
