The FDJJ-Kissimmee Youth Academy is within the jurisdiction of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice located at 2330 New Beginnings Rd, Kissimmee, FL.

The facility provides supervision of youth in a safe, secure and humane environment. Services for youth include education, mental health, substance abuse, and health care. Medical and mental health are contracted services. Educational services are funded by the Florida Department of Education through local school districts.

A typical day in secure detention would involve hygiene, meals, school, structured physical and educational activities, and court appearance as scheduled. The average length of stay in secure state detention is approximately 60 days.

The Kissimmee Youth Academy (YA) is a State-owned high-risk and maximum-risk residential facility for male offenders between the ages of 14 and 21 in a secure program dedicated to providing mental health overlay services and substance abuse treatment tailored to each youth's needs. In addition, the Kissimmee YA - BDD/DD is a secure program designed to cater to youth with borderline developmental disability (BDD) and developmental disability (DD) diagnoses. I In addition to treatment services, the program offers social and life skills development, vocational training, and on-site educational classes.

The duration of stay at Kissimmee Youth Academy varies based on the individual's progress in completing their personalized treatment plan and goals. As a Type 2 program, it offers core subjects like English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, along with one elective course. This elective course may focus on additional reading support or vocational training.

Education and vocational services are administered through the Osceola County School District. In addition to traditional instruction, the program utilizes the PLATO lab for online credit recovery when suitable for the youth. Furthermore, Kissimmee YA serves as a GED® test site.

For youths requiring extended care under the Department of Juvenile Justice's supervision, residential facilities across Florida offer the necessary support. Placement is determined by the commitment plan rather than the arrest location, with assistance from the child's Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) in identifying the appropriate facility.
