Medical and mental health are contracted services. Educational services are funded by the Florida Department of Education through local school districts.

South Florida Youth Academy, situated in Miami-Dade County, serves as a 30-bed high-risk program catering to male adolescents aged 14 to 18. The facility specializes in Substance Abuse Treatment Overlay Services (SAOS), Mental Health Overlay Services (MHOS), and Comprehensive Treatment Services.

For youths requiring extended care under the Department of Juvenile Justice's supervision, residential facilities throughout Florida offer essential support. Placement depends on the commitment plan rather than the arrest location, and your child's Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) can assist in locating the appropriate facility.

The duration of stay varies based on the youth's progress in completing the individualized treatment plan and goals.

Academic services at South Florida Youth Academy are provided by the Miami-Dade School Board. Additionally, career and technical education is offered to develop youths' interests, aptitudes, and skills, enhancing their employability within their community.

Operated by contracted provider TrueCore Behavioral Solutions, LLC, this residential program offers a range of services. For further information on DJJ's oversight, administration, and residential services, please reach out to Lori Jernigan, Assistant Secretary of Residential Services, at lori.jernigan@fldjj.gov or (850) 394-7634.
