CLOSING: The Federal Bureau of Prisons has suspended operations at several facilities, including the minimum-security Federal Prison Camp in Duluth. Officials cited aging infrastructure and condemned buildings containing hazardous materials, such as asbestos and lead paint, as reasons for the closure. Approximately 700 inmates will be transferred to other federal facilities, and most of the 89 employees will be reassigned to positions at the federal prison in Sandstone, located 70 miles away. The decision reflects ongoing efforts to address deteriorating conditions across the prison system.
