The Florence Co Jail is a detention center located at 6719 Friendfield Rd Effingham, SC which is operated locally by the Florence County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Florence County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Effingham Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

You can see all the arrest records for South Carolina here.

The detention center is a 520-bed county jail facility staffed by 15 officers on four shifts. Day Command includes Transportation, Classification, Security, and civilian staff.

How to have mail delivered to an inmate

  • You may mail letters, postcards, or greeting cards to the address above
  • You may include small photographs. Pornographic, obscene, or gang photos will be returned to the sender.
  • Do not write or draw anything on the envelope or correspondence. All drawings will be treated as gang graffiti or an attempt to secretly communicate. Such material will be returned to the sender.
  • All mail (except clearly marked legal mail) is opened prior to the inmate receiving it in an attempt to keep contraband out of our facility.

Inmate charges and bond amounts

  • First, check www.fcso.org and view inmates booking information
  • You may go to www.vinelink.com and register if you are the victim of a crime and wish to receive information on an inmate's status.
  • Contact the booking department at 843-665-9944 ext 485, 486, and 487

Picking up Money/Property from an Inmate

  • An inmate wishing to have any of his/her property must originate this activity by requesting a form from the housing unit officer. Once the paperwork is approved by the administration you will be notified to pick up the items. You may come to Mon-Fri 9:00 am-4:00 pm.
  • Inmates who are attending court for sentencing should dispose of their property in a timely fashion. Once sentenced for a crime that requires an inmate be sent to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, we send the inmate and associated property. As inmates are not allowed to have only a minimal list of items, the bulk of what is sent with the inmate is placed in the trash at SCDC. They do not have room to store inmate's excess belongings, nor do we.
