The Forsyth Co Jail is a detention center located at 202 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Cumming, GA which is operated locally by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Forsyth County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Cumming Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

At the Forsyth County Jail, a variety of inmate programs are offered through extensive partnerships with numerous community volunteers. These programs include church services available throughout the week, facilitated by over 120 volunteers across five denominations, and educational and support initiatives such as the GED program, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Narcotics Anonymous. Managed by the Sheriff of Forsyth County, the Jail Bureau, under the command of Major Deeann Cash, comprises the Security Division, responsible for managing all inmate housing, and the Operations Division, which oversees administration, inmate services, communications, resources, transportation, and inmate programs.

The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

The Forsyth County Jail also provides transition classes designed to prepare inmates for reintegration into society. These classes cover topics such as anger management, parenting skills, budgeting and money management, listening skills, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, relationship building, personal development, and spiritual growth. Specific programs include "5 Lies That Ruin Relationships," "How to Change for the Better," and "Becoming an R12 (Romans 12) Spiritual Person." Additionally, the Place of Forsyth Project offers further educational and support opportunities.

One notable program, Pups with Purpose, pairs select inmates with rescued dogs from the animal shelter. Over a 12-week class, inmates provide care and obedience training to these dogs, which are then adopted by citizens. This initiative helps inmates develop social and vocational skills while giving homeless dogs a second chance at finding permanent homes. More information about this program is available on the Pups with Purpose website.

The Litter Detail Deputy coordinates with Forsyth County Clean and Beautiful for roadside clean-up, identifying areas in need and supervising four inmates who perform trash removal on county roads. Since its inception in mid-2018, this program has collected 855 bags of trash and maintained 88 roads within the first six months.

The Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) program, funded by a grant, focuses on high-risk, high-needs offenders with histories of substance use contributing to criminal behavior. This program provides essential counseling and treatment, aiming to equip participants with skills for healthier, productive lives post-release. The RSAT program, in collaboration with community partners, offers a vital support system for these individuals, fostering their potential to become constructive members of the community.
