Hays State Prison, established in 1990, is a close security facility tasked with managing some of Georgia's most challenging offenders. With a capacity of 1,101 inmates, it aims to minimize recidivism through structured programs and effective re-entry initiatives. The prison includes a Faith & Character based dormitory and hosts the Paulding Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program, functioning as a Tier I, II & STEP Down facility.
The housing at Hays State Prison consists of seven general population dormitories, one Fast Track building, six Tier II dorms, and three Tier I dorms. Additionally, there is an outside fire station and an infirmary. The facility also accommodates approximately 750 level II mental health offenders. It houses specialized units such as a C.E.R.T.
