The Glades Co Jail is a detention center located at 598 Avenue J Moore Haven, FL which is operated locally by the Glades County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Glades County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Moore Haven Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The Glades County Jail Operations Center operates under the authority of the Glades County Sheriff, with the corrections division supervised by the Chief Deputy and correctional staff situated adjacent to the Moore Haven Correctional Facility. The primary goal of the corrections division is to establish a safe, secure, and humane environment for both staff and inmates. Located at 598 Avenue J, Moore Haven, FL, its mission is to ensure a safe, secure, and humane environment for both staff and inmates.
Upon arrival at the Glades County Jail, each inmate undergoes property intake, including the deposit of funds, inventorying of clothing and personal items, as well as a medical screening and the booking process. A $25 booking fee is charged to non-federal inmates during intake, which is refunded if the case against the inmate is dismissed or if they are found not guilty, upon submission of court documents.
Arrested individuals who do not post bail appear before a judge within the first twenty-four hours of arrest. During this initial appearance, the judge informs the individual of their charges and the bond amount. This appearance can occur either physically before the judge or via Poly Com (video court). After completing the intake process, inmates are assigned to the general population. Housing assignments are based on the inmate's charge classification, whether it is a felony or misdemeanor.
