The Hot Springs Co Jail is a detention center located at 417 Arapahoe St Thermopolis, WY which is operated locally by the Hot Springs County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Hot Springs County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Thermopolis Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Hot Springs County Detention Center is a secure facility with a capacity of 32 beds, designed to house individuals awaiting initial hearings, trials, sentencing, or serving court-ordered sentences. Bail and bonds are determined by the courts, and in some cases, the arrested individual must see a judge before being released on bond. Bail is primarily used to ensure the accused's presence in court, while a bond guarantees the bail money to the court. Bonds can be posted using cash, credit, or debit cards in person, online at allpaid.com, or over the phone at 1-888-604-7888, using the Hot Springs County code A0055f. Surety bonds must be secured by a registered bondsperson, who can be found under "Bail Bonds" in the phone book.

Family and friends can deposit money into an inmate's account by visiting www.jailatm.com or using the kiosk at the law enforcement center, which accepts cash, debit, or credit cards. Personal checks are not accepted. Phone time, messaging, and video visitation can be set up through www.cidnet.net. Acceptable deposits by mail include U.S. money orders, cashier's checks, certified checks, U.S. government checks, and checks from other correctional facilities. These must be made out to the Hot Springs County Detention Center with the inmate's name in the memo section.

Incoming mail will be opened and inspected for contraband and any content that might threaten security. Inmates can purchase stamped envelopes and writing materials through the commissary; stamps, envelopes, and writing materials from outside are not accepted. The detention center has a large selection of reading materials available for inmates, and books may only be brought in if they pertain to the inmate’s religion.

Mail that does not meet acceptance requirements will be returned to the sender. Examples of items not accepted into the facility include correspondence for inmates other than the intended recipient, correspondence from other correctional institutions, and institutional floor plans. Inmates are not permitted to request another person to forward correspondence beyond the immediate addressee, and all correspondence must have complete sender and recipient address details. Money orders are only accepted from friends or family, and magazines, newspapers, personal checks, coins, jewelry, plastic items, and food are prohibited. Additionally, mail cannot contain stickers, inkpad stamps, or white-out on envelopes or letters. Enclosed items such as writing or drawing instruments, newspaper and magazine clippings, small pamphlets, handmade drawings or letters using marker, highlighter, crayon, or colored pencil, glitter, cloth material, ribbons, or cards are not permitted. Sexually explicit or pornographic material, content that threatens the facility’s security, order, or discipline, correspondence in code or gang-related material, and foreign substances such as lipstick, perfume, or bodily fluids on mail items are also banned. Letters or envelopes written with felt markers, gel, or glitter pens, and correspondence with persons under a "No Contact" order are strictly prohibited.

Upon processing into the detention center, all personal property is stored. Property may be picked up with written permission from the inmate, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. If an inmate is transferred to another facility, their property is held for 30 days before being considered abandoned and destroyed. No property will be accepted for inmates without the approval of the Detention Center Administrator.
