Communication is important, the prison offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.
While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
The BMRCC, established in March 1993, prioritizes safety for both employees and incarcerated individuals while fostering an environment conducive to rehabilitation and reintegration. Situated in Jefferson County, this medium-security adult male facility spans 78 acres, featuring 20 buildings totaling over 39,000 square feet. The center's overarching objective is to equip individuals in custody with the necessary skills and resources to facilitate their successful transition back into society upon release. Through a comprehensive range of programming opportunities, inmates are empowered to improve themselves and prepare for life beyond bars. Academic programs, such as Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED), and special education initiatives, lay the foundation for intellectual growth and academic achievement.
Moreover, vocational training plays a pivotal role in enhancing inmates' employability and self-sufficiency post-release. From automotive and construction occupations to horticulture and culinary arts, the center offers diverse vocational programs tailored to inmates' interests and aptitudes. Additionally, specialized programs cater to specific needs, including the Youthful Individuals in Custody Educational Program for those aged 21 and under, as well as substance abuse treatment, anger management, and sex offender rehabilitation initiatives.
Beyond academic and vocational endeavors, the center facilitates holistic rehabilitation through programs like Thinking for a Change, aimed at fostering cognitive restructuring and pro-social behavior. The Reentry Summit provides comprehensive support for individuals nearing release, addressing various challenges associated with reintegration into the community. Furthermore, the center prioritizes the spiritual and recreational needs of inmates through chaplaincy services, library access, and leisure-time activities, ensuring a well-rounded approach to rehabilitation. Through these multifaceted programs and initiatives, the Big Muddy River Correctional Center remains dedicated to fostering positive change and facilitating successful reentry into society for its incarcerated population.
BMRC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
