The Jefferson Co Jail is a detention center located at 200 Jefferson Co Pkwy Golden, CO which is operated locally by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Jefferson County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Golden Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Jefferson County Detention Services Division's facility is built to accommodate approximately 1,300 inmates across various security levels and special housing areas. Spanning 388,000 square feet, the facility includes separate housing modules for male and female detainees. Established in 1986 in Golden, the facility underwent expansion in 1999 to its current size, prioritizing cost efficiency, security enhancement, and minimizing prisoner movement between buildings.

Features of the expanded facility include recreation yards, an online law library, and program rooms supporting personal development activities. Inmates in minimum-security areas are housed in dormitory-style units, although they remain within the module and participate in diverse activities aimed at equipping them with skills for successful reintegration into society.

Each two-story quadrant within the minimum-security areas encompasses sleeping quarters, exercise areas, and multipurpose rooms for meetings and recreation. The structural design enables staff to supervise inmates effectively, employing a direct-supervision approach across many parts of the jail.
