The Lee Adjustment Center, operated by the private prison company CoreCivic under contract with the Kentucky Department of Corrections (KDOC), is an 866-bed medium security institution for adult males. Situated on an 88-acre parcel, approximately eleven acres constitute the secure compound, enclosed by a 12-foot double perimeter fence equipped with an electronic stun fence.
The facility comprises three general population housing units: the South Dorm with 224 beds, the North Dorm with 336 beds, and the West Dorm with 256 beds. The South and North Dorms are open-wing dormitory-style units, with the North Dorm's lower level housing a Substance Abuse Program. The West Dorm features 128 two-person cells arranged in a five-pod configuration. Additionally, the Restrictive Housing Unit accommodates 50 beds, including forty-eight single cells and two observation cells.
Owned since 1998, the Lee Adjustment Center serves the Kentucky Department of Corrections and caters to medium and close-security inmates. Upon arrival, inmates participate in the facility's orientation program within the first two weeks and receive a copy of the inmate handbook. This comprehensive handbook equips inmates with essential information to navigate life within the facility and stay connected with family or legal representatives.
Key topics covered in the handbook include requesting medical appointments and available services, religious services, educational programs, recreation opportunities, commissary procedures, hygiene expectations, facility schedules, and visitation information. Through orientation and the handbook, inmates can promptly address concerns, access necessary resources, and engage in programs and services provided by the facility, fostering a smoother transition into institutional life.
In addition to its comprehensive orientation program and inmate handbook, the LAC offers a range of programs aimed at promoting rehabilitation and skill development among its inmate population. These programs cater to various needs, including substance abuse treatment, anger management, and educational advancement. The facility provides Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) sessions covering topics such as anger management, parenting, and maintaining sobriety. The PORTAL New Direction program offers guidance and support for inmates seeking to make positive life changes, while the Substance Abuse Mentor program pairs individuals with mentors to aid in their recovery journey. Additionally, the Substance Abuse Program and Seeking Safety program provide structured interventions for addressing addiction and related issues. On the educational front, LAC offers opportunities for inmates to earn their GED diploma, pursue vocational training in fields like carpentry and computer science, and even work towards associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees, empowering them with valuable skills for successful reintegration into society upon release. These programs reflect LAC's commitment to fostering personal growth and transformation among its inmate population, ultimately contributing to safer communities and reduced recidivism rates.
