The Kleberg Co Jail, located at 1500 E King Ave in Kingsville, TX, is a secure detention center operated by the Kleberg County Sheriff's Office. This facility primarily houses individuals awaiting trial or sentencing, typically for less than two years. It accepts inmates from various jurisdictions, including surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service, and the Kingsville Police Department.

New detainees are regularly admitted to the jail, with some being released on bail or placed under pretrial services caseloads. Others await their court appearances at the facility, receiving necessary accommodations such as bedding and meals. View all arrest records here.

Individuals who do not post bail within the first twenty-four hours are required to appear before a judge. During this first appearance, conducted either in person or via telephone, the judge informs the arrested person of the charges against them and sets the bond amount.

Following the intake process, which includes property inventory, medical screening, and booking, inmates are assigned to the general population. Housing assignments are based on the classification of their charges, whether felony or misdemeanor, to ensure proper management and safety within the facility.

After processing, inmates are assigned to a housing area based on classification. Compliance with jail rules typically results in a lower classification and more privileges, while rule violations or additional charges lead to a higher classification and fewer privileges. Inmates serving as trustees within the jail undertake various tasks, including cooking, laundry, and commissary management, often receiving minimal compensation or sentence reduction for their services.

The jail is designed with "pods," featuring a large common area with affixed tables and attached seats, and individual cells typically on two levels. Inmates spend certain times in their cells and other times congregating in the pod for activities like playing cards, games, reading, or watching television. Movement outside the pod, such as trips to the commissary, library, or recreation area, occurs under the constant supervision of unarmed correctional officers. The environment in the county jail is considered less stressful than that of a prison because the sentences are much shorter.

The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

Commissary is available weekly, with orders submitted via kiosk two days in advance. On holidays, there may be increased spending limits. Upon receiving commissary items, inmates must present their ID, check their order, and sign for it in the presence of the commissary employee. Indigent inmates are provided with all essential basic hygiene items including USPS stamps and writing materials.

Inmate workers are selected for community service programs based on their demonstrated good conduct, cooperation with facility staff, and adherence to institutional rules. These criteria ensure that only individuals who exhibit responsibility, reliability, and a commitment to positive behavior are allowed to participate. Participation in these programs not only benefits the community through valuable labor contributions but also offers inmates the chance to develop a strong work ethic, learn transferable job skills, and build a sense of accountability.

In certain cases, involvement in community service programs can contribute to a reduction in an inmate's sentence. This incentive reinforces the importance of maintaining good behavior while incarcerated and highlights the program's dual role in supporting both the community and the inmate's journey toward reintegration.

Visitation Information

Visitation privileges at the facility are generally extended to all inmates unless revoked following a disciplinary hearing. Visitation is organized by gender and security classification, with specific days and hours allocated to different groups. Male inmates are permitted visits on Tuesdays from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM and on Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Female inmates may receive visitors on Tuesdays from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM and on Saturdays from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Inmates in Close Custody and MAX Security have designated visitation times that vary; visitors are encouraged to contact the jail before their visit to confirm the specific times allotted for these inmates.

For inmates housed in specific sections, such as ISO1, ISO2, and various MO and Section units, visitation times are as follows: ISO1 and ISO2 have visits from 11:30 AM to 11:50 AM, Section 1 from 11:50 AM to 12:10 AM, MO1 from 12:10 AM to 12:30 AM, MO2 from 12:30 AM to 12:50 AM, Section 2 from 12:50 AM to 1:10 PM, and Section 3 from 1:10 PM to 1:30 PM.

Visitors must be pre-authorized by the inmate, who will designate them on a visitation list. Authorized visitors may include any individual chosen by the inmate, including common-law spouses. Minor children of the inmate are allowed to visit, provided they are accompanied by an adult parent, legal guardian, or the inmate's attorney. The accompanying adult is responsible for the minor's conduct during the visit, and any misconduct may result in the removal of the minor from the visiting area and possible termination of the minor’s visitation privileges.

All visitors are required to present a valid form of photo identification and sign a visitor roster, providing their signature and identification number (e.g., Texas driver’s license). Visits are scheduled to last at least twenty minutes, regardless of the number of visitors present, and inmates will only be removed once from their unit for visitation. The facility is not responsible for visitor tardiness or any misinterpretation of visitation rules.

Visitation is considered a privilege, and all visits are subject to monitoring and recording. Each inmate is allowed up to two twenty-minute visits per week, with the week beginning on Sunday. Visitors are allowed to visit the same inmate only once per day and may be subject to criminal warrant checks. Visitors are required to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled visit to check in, but no more than an hour early due to limited seating in the visitation area. Late arrivals will have their visits canceled.

Strict dress code regulations are enforced, including the requirement of appropriate footwear (no bedroom slippers) and prohibitions on skin-tight or form-fitting clothing, gang-related symbols, vulgar language, and see-through or revealing garments. Visitors must remain seated throughout the visit, and any inappropriate behavior may result in the termination of the visitation session.

Visitors who create disturbances, appear under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refuse to provide proper identification, or act inappropriately may have their visitation privileges suspended for a minimum of 30 days, with the possibility of a permanent ban. Staff retain the discretion to deny, alter, or cancel a visit at any time. Bringing firearms, explosives, alcoholic beverages, narcotics, or controlled substances into the facility is a criminal offense and will result in arrest.
