Communication is important, the prison offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. Established in 1889 and situated near Eddyville in Lyon County, KSP is the Department's oldest and sole maximum-security facility, housing Kentucky's death row inmates. With a population of 856 and a staff of 348, KSP is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of security and operational efficiency.

KSP maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
To schedule an appointment to visit, please email KSP.Visits@ky.gov. All visits must be requested via email by the inmate visitor. The visitor will need to schedule any visit at least seven days in advance. In-person visiting requests must include the visitor's name, date of birth, and social security number. The request must also include the date they wish to visit and if the visit will be in-person or virtual. The visitation time will be assigned based on availability and approval.

In-Person:
5CH - First Tuesday and Wednesday of month; In-person: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
4CH - Second Tuesday and Wednesday of month; In-person: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
6CH GP - Third Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
SSU (Death Row) - Fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person or Video: 8:00 - 10:30 a.m.
PC - Fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person or Video: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
OSQ - Fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person or Video: 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
All in-person requests shall be made via email to KSP.Visits@ky.gov and shall be made at least seven days in advance. All video visits are scheduled through Securus.
