Acadiana Center for Youth - Martinville operates as a state-funded juvenile detention center, offering a diverse range of treatment and program services tailored for youth within OJJ secure care facilities. These services are individualized based on assessments to best meet the needs of each youth.

As part of their participation in the juvenile justice reform movement, all youth at the center engage in LAMOD (the Louisiana Model for Secure Care). Developed with guidance from the Missouri Youth Services Institute (MYSI) and the Casey Strategic Consulting Group (CSCG), LAMOD is uniquely designed to address Louisiana’s distinctive environment, dynamics, and needs. This therapeutic approach fosters a supportive environment where youth and staff interact in small groups, involve family members, and promote positive peer culture. LAMOD effectively prepares youth for successful re-entry into the community as productive citizens.

The center provides an extensive range of treatment services and programs to support youth development, encompassing required 360 minutes of blended learning/academic classes, individualized academic counseling, pathway selection customized to individual student interests such as TOPS High School Diploma, TOPS Tech (Jumpstart), or HiSET (equivalent to GED), special programs classes including Special Education, 504, and ELL, credit recovery, targeted tutoring, extended day and/or Saturday school, a social-emotional learning (SEL) program, career exploration and readiness courses, life skills programming, HiSET preparation and testing for residents aged 17 and older, LEAP 2025 and other standardized testing mandated by the Department of Education, dual enrollment opportunities with state community colleges for 11th and 12th graders, post-secondary education options in 4-year colleges and vocational schools for residents who have completed a HiSET and demonstrate appropriate behavior while off-campus, provision of one-to-one technology devices (laptops, study buddies, etc.), and religious services conducted on campus by volunteer pastors.

These comprehensive services and programs underscore the center's commitment to promoting rehabilitation, academic achievement, and personal development among its youth residents, thereby facilitating their successful reintegration into society.

Visitation Information

Visitation Hours

  • Saturday12:00pm - 4:00 pm

  • Sunday12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

OJJ Visitation Guidelines link from their website - Support and visitation by family members play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of youth in secure care facilities. Visits from family members can serve as a source of motivation and inspiration for youth, encouraging their active participation in programming and helping them to achieve the goals outlined in their treatment plans. Moreover, such visits may contribute to the possibility of an earlier release date for the youth. Demonstrating your care through regular visits reassures your child that they are not forgotten and reinforces their sense of connection to their family.

During your visit, you will have the opportunity to meet with facility staff to discuss your child's progress and any concerns you may have. Your child may designate approved visitors, and the facility will assist them in creating a visitor list with guidance from their case manager or counselor. This list will be available for your review.

To ensure the safety and security of all individuals involved, background checks are conducted on potential visitors before they are permitted to visit the facility grounds. Your child retains the right to refuse any visitor if they so choose.

If you encounter challenges in visiting your child due to transportation issues or personal circumstances, you are encouraged to reach out to the facility, regional office, or the OJJ Regional Family Liaison for assistance in scheduling a visit or addressing any other concerns you may have.

For detailed information on the visitor approval process and safety measures during visitation, please refer to the secure care facilities or contact the relevant authorities for guidance.
