The Lake Co Jail is a detention center located at 551 W Main St Tavares, FL which is operated locally by the Lake County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Lake County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Tavares Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The Lake County Detention Center, located downtown across from the Judicial Center, was constructed in 1992. The facility employs 239 personnel, including 179 sworn employees and 60 non-sworn employees, all working under the leadership of the Sheriff. The Detention Center has been accredited by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission since 2006 and by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care for its inmate medical department since 2017. With a capacity of 960 inmates, the center's average daily population is 828, housing misdemeanor and felony inmates, including males, females, and juveniles.
The Sheriff's Department has published a 29-page Inmate Handbook to learn more details.
The Programs Department offers a variety of services aimed at bettering inmates in preparation for their release, providing information and training to assist them in changing their lives and preventing recidivism. These programs are available to both men and women and include the following:
Chaplaincy Services: Supervised by Chaplain Jim Cornell of the Good News Jail & Prison Ministry, this non-denominational organization provides a chaplain at no cost to the jail. The Chaplain, supported by local churches, businesses, and individuals, along with approximately 45 volunteers, offers Sunday and Wednesday services for each housing unit, group Bible studies throughout the week, and one-on-one mentoring upon request. Religious materials, including Bibles, are available, and a book cart with religious literature is provided weekly. The Chaplain also delivers crisis messages to inmates and supports correctional officers and staff. Services are provided to all inmates regardless of their religious affiliation, with efforts made to involve local practitioners of various religions as needed.
ACER Academy: This educational program, operated by Lake County Schools and staffed by a full-time certified teacher, serves juveniles in the detention center. Students can work towards earning a regular diploma, special diploma, GED, or GED/FCAT option diploma.
G.E.D. Teaching and Testing: In collaboration with Lake Technical College, qualified inmates can participate in GED classes and testing during their incarceration.
Recovery Groups: Recognizing the link between drug and alcohol problems and recidivism, recovery-oriented groups are offered through Alcoholics Anonymous, Celebrate Recovery, and LifeStream Behavioral Center.
Book Cart: Donated books are distributed to every housing unit every week, ensuring inmates have access to reading materials.
"Released" Brochure: Provided to each inmate upon intake, this brochure lists useful resources and phone numbers to assist inmates in their reintroduction to normal life upon release from the facility.
To utilize the Inmate Search page on InmateAid, begin by selecting the relevant prison facility in Florida. This allows you to view the current list of inmates housed at Lake County FL Detention Center.
The second section features the InmateAid Inmate Search tool, providing a user-generated database of inmates. You can access this resource to utilize any of InmateAid's services. If you require assistance in creating an inmate profile to maintain communication, please contact us at aid@inmateaid.com, and we'll gladly help you locate your loved one.
As a last resort, you might have to pay for that information if we do not have it. The Arrest Record Search will cost you a small amount, but their data is the freshest available and for that reason, they charge to access it.
