At the heart of the agency lies the Patrol Division, whose effectiveness relies on the dedication of its personnel. Responsible for traffic enforcement, criminal apprehension, investigation, and enforcement of city ordinances and State Statutes, the Patrol division serves as the primary defense line for community safety, operating marked patrol cars.
The Detective Division, comprising four sergeants and eight Patrol Officers, is tasked with conducting follow-up investigations, preserving crime scenes and collecting evidence, handling traffic homicide investigations, and overseeing Internal Affairs matters. One Detective is presently assigned to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force, enhancing the division's efficacy and contribution to law enforcement.
Supervised by the Chief of Police, the Detective Division also encompasses the records division, victim advocate, and the Community Resource Officer. The records division manages the dissemination of agency reports and is responsible for State Uniform Crime Reports, along with aiding in billing and accounts payable. The Victim Advocate offers support to victims of various crimes, including Domestic Violence and Sexual Battery, by providing referrals to shelters, hospitals, and counseling services. Similarly, the Community Resource Officer conducts Crime Prevention training, organizes public awareness programs, and facilitates initiatives like the Citizens Police Academy, contributing to public safety endeavors.
