The Live Oak PD serves as a brief holding facility for the Police Department and agencies within the judicial district of Suwannee County. Located at 205 White Ave SE in Live Oak, FL, this facility accommodates arrestees awaiting transfer to the nearest detention facility that issued the arrest warrant. Following the transfer, offenders are arraigned and charged before a magistrate at the County Courthouse. Bail determinations are made at this stage. The mission of the Live Oak Police Department is to safeguard the lives and property of the community's citizens, uphold peace, and prevent crime and disorder while ensuring the protection of personal liberties within legal bounds. Upholding the inherent dignity and value of individuals, the Live Oak Police Department is dedicated to delivering top-notch, community-oriented policing services.

At the heart of the agency lies the Patrol Division, whose effectiveness relies on the dedication of its personnel. Responsible for traffic enforcement, criminal apprehension, investigation, and enforcement of city ordinances and State Statutes, the Patrol division serves as the primary defense line for community safety, operating marked patrol cars.

The Detective Division, comprising four sergeants and eight Patrol Officers, is tasked with conducting follow-up investigations, preserving crime scenes and collecting evidence, handling traffic homicide investigations, and overseeing Internal Affairs matters. One Detective is presently assigned to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force, enhancing the division's efficacy and contribution to law enforcement.

Supervised by the Chief of Police, the Detective Division also encompasses the records division, victim advocate, and the Community Resource Officer. The records division manages the dissemination of agency reports and is responsible for State Uniform Crime Reports, along with aiding in billing and accounts payable. The Victim Advocate offers support to victims of various crimes, including Domestic Violence and Sexual Battery, by providing referrals to shelters, hospitals, and counseling services. Similarly, the Community Resource Officer conducts Crime Prevention training, organizes public awareness programs, and facilitates initiatives like the Citizens Police Academy, contributing to public safety endeavors.
