The Marquette County Community Corrections Detention Center is overseen by the Marquette Sheriff's Department and consists of six community-based programs that supervise both pre-sentenced and post-sentenced offenders, prioritizing public safety and cost-effective alternatives to incarceration. Working in collaboration with the County's Work Release Center, located at 100 N Big Creek Rd Beaver Grove, MI, and other criminal justice agencies, the division oversees thousands of offenders in the community.

A Community Corrections Facility is a structured, supportive environment designed for low-risk offenders and those nearing the end of their sentences, with a primary goal of rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society. Unlike traditional high-security prisons, these facilities offer programs that focus on personal development, employment skills, and behavioral health, addressing the needs of individuals through targeted support. Common offerings include substance abuse treatment, cognitive-behavioral therapy, anger management, and vocational training, equipping residents with tools to overcome personal challenges and establish constructive habits.

Many Community Corrections facilities also feature work release programs, allowing individuals to work outside during the day and return in the evening, fostering a sense of responsibility and aiding the transition back into the community. Security is maintained through a combination of supervision and strict adherence to facility rules, ensuring a safe and structured environment. By promoting accountability and providing practical resources, Community Corrections facilities play a vital role in reducing recidivism, supporting public safety, and empowering residents to make positive, lasting changes in their lives.

The Office of Community Corrections is dedicated to reducing the number of individuals sentenced to prison while maintaining public safety through the implementation of effective, evidence-based programming and services within the community. These programs are designed to address the behaviors and needs of individuals under supervision across the state, aiming to mitigate the long-term impacts and costs of incarceration without compromising public safety. Marquette County's Community Corrections currently offers the following programs:

Pretrial Risk Assessments (PRAXIS) utilize a research-based risk assessment to determine a defendant's likelihood of court appearance, public safety risks, and the potential for violating bond conditions.

Pretrial Supervision (PTS) focuses on upholding pretrial justice through legal and evidence-based practices, emphasizing court appearance and public safety.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a nationally recognized evidence-based practice aimed at reducing recidivism. This cognitive-behavioral approach addresses offenders' ego, social, moral, and behavioral growth positively.

The Opiate-Methamphetamine Specific Program (OMSP) is a 150-day treatment facility (TRI-CAP) that includes 16 group sessions per week for 21 weeks. Each treatment plan is person-centered, tailored to the offender's learning level, motivation, and, in some cases, gender-specific needs.

Substance Abuse Testing (SAT) supports the PTS program, targeting pretrial defendants with a self-identified substance abuse issue or a documented recent history of substance abuse.

The Sheriff's Release Program/Work Release allows inmates to maintain employment within the community during their incarceration, with the expectation of continued employment upon sentence completion. Inmates participate in a pass program, going to and from work according to an employer-provided and jail-approved schedule. The cost for this program is $25 per day for the offender.

The School Release program enables inmates to stay enrolled in an accredited school to achieve meaningful educational goals. This program also allows eligible clients to be released for employment training through employers or community service programs. Verification of enrollment and school approval is required before release on a permission pass.

Treatment Release allows inmates to attend substance abuse treatment programs in the community during incarceration, and to continue treatment and abstinence post-release. For all-day parole inquiries, contact Sergeant Jamie Robillard.
