The Martin Co Jail is a detention center located at 800 SE Monterey Rd Stuart, FL which is operated locally by the Martin County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Martin County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Stuart Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Martin County Jail, a 696-bed maximum-security facility, ensures public safety through the incarceration and supervision of inmates. It houses individuals from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, with charges ranging from civil infractions to capital offenses. The Corrections Department maintains a professional working environment for staff, ensuring a safe, secure, and humane living environment for inmates.

The Corrections Department provides contracted medical services and ensures that inmates with substance addiction and mental health needs have access to treatment programs. Eligible inmates are encouraged to participate in substance abuse programs, attain their General Educational Development (GED), and engage in religious and individual counseling sessions to prepare them to become productive members of the community upon release.

In 2001, the Reduced Custody Building was constructed, increasing the overall bed capacity. This facility houses low custody-level inmates through a classification process, allowing them to provide community-based labor and reducing costs to taxpayers. It also accommodates inmates sentenced to serve weekend sentences.

In 2007, the Corrections Department introduced a 144-bed Direct Supervision Model. This innovative concept significantly reduces incidents of assaults, extortions, and lawsuits compared to traditional "linear" jail management. The model allows deputies to directly interact with inmates, promoting positive behavior and a less stressful atmosphere conducive to program participation and successful completion. Program services are available within this housing area, reducing inmate movement and staffing requirements, and contributing to lower maintenance costs.

Deposits are posted automatically with a receipt issued to the inmate the following business day. You must have the inmate's name and booking number (CFN) to make these deposits. If you do not know the CFN, you may locate it at the Jail Inmate Search page.

Telephones are available to the inmates in each housing area from 9 am to 10 pm daily. Only outgoing calls are permitted as inmate phones do not provide for incoming calls. All calls initiated by the inmates are "collect-calls" to the person dialed. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. If you have questions regarding your phone charges, would like to place a block on your phone, or unblock your phone, please call the inmate billing service, GTL, at 800-483-8314. View the GTL Services (PDF) for more information about available services.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate.

Recovery for alcoholics and drug addicts involves a comprehensive regeneration of spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. It entails learning a set of lifelong skills to remain chemical-free and manage the various challenges life presents. Individuals with chemical dependency have often developed unhealthy coping mechanisms and must learn and practice new, healthier skills to become proficient.

The use of inmate workers provides significant savings to taxpayers in Martin County by offering no-cost labor for maintenance and upkeep. Inmates are classified for supervised work assignments, which include maintaining and upkeeping Martin County Sheriff's Office facilities and grounds, as well as other county facilities such as the Fire Department, public water and sewer services, and road crews.

The Office of the Public Defender conducts an offender re-entry program to serve eligible inmates incarcerated in the facility. This program is designed to assist inmates transitioning back into the community upon release. A Re-Entry Coordinator acts as a liaison between inmates and outside agencies, creating individualized plans to address the specific needs of each inmate. These plans may include addressing education, homelessness, mental health needs, unemployment, counseling, and substance abuse issues.
