The Minnesota Correctional Facility - MCF Red Wing (Juvenile) is within the jurisdiction of the Minnesota Department of Juvenile Justice located at 1079 Hwy 292, Red Wing, MN.

The facility provides supervision of youth in a safe, secure and humane environment. Services for youth include education, mental health, substance abuse, and health care. Medical and mental health are contracted services. Educational services are funded by the Minnesota Department of Education through local school districts.

A typical day in secure detention would involve hygiene, meals, school, structured physical and educational activities, and court appearance as scheduled. The average length of stay in secure state detention is approximately 60 days.

Minnesota Correctional Facility–Red Wing (MCF-Red Wing) is a juvenile residential facility operated by the Department of Corrections. Constructed in 1889, the physical plant of the facility consists of 30 buildings set within a perimeter fence that includes five general population living units and a secured unit. The facility’s licensed bed space capacity is 88, with each general population living unit housing 16-24 youth and the secured unit housing 30 youth.

The mission of MCF-Red Wing is to encourage the development of healthy living and social skills and prepare youth to re-enter the community with appropriate resources to maintain a healthy and pro-social lifestyle. The facility complies with Children’s Residential Facility (CRF) licensing standards and participates in Performance-based Standards (PbS) to ensure programs and services are rooted in nationally recognized evidence-based practices for youth.

MCF-Red Wing participates in the USDA National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs, and any complaints regarding civil rights violations within these programs are addressed through the Civil Rights Complaint Procedure. Various services are provided by facility staff to youth, including Aggression Replacement Training®, The Phoenix Curriculum, trauma and grief therapy, mental health counseling, chemical health education, juvenile sex offender treatment, academic/vocational courses, work experience, transition/community reentry support, health/dental services, recreation/leisure activities, volunteer/mentor programs, and access to religious/spiritual resources.

Saturdays and Sundays

10:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Arrest holds and detention holds who are housed in the security unit have visiting from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
