The Montcalm Co Jail is a detention center located at 649 N State St Stanton, MI which is operated locally by the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Montcalm County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Stanton Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Montcalm County Jail, which opened its doors on March 1, 2002, represents a modern correctional facility built with the latest advancements in correctional technology. Initially, the jail had a capacity of 119 beds. In 2003, a remodel of an adjoining section of the original jail added 52 more beds, increasing the total capacity to 181. A second renovation in the fall of 2006 added 24 beds, bringing the current total bed count to 205.

The facility employs a dedicated team comprising 18 full-time Corrections Officers and 4 Sergeants.

For those seeking information on an inmate's court date or status, the Jail offers an automated information system accessible by calling 989-831-7592. This system is updated based on court actions, with the latest updates available after 3 pm, Monday through Friday. Jail officers also have updated information after 3 pm.

Family and friends can send care packages containing clothing and toiletries to inmates. These packages can be ordered online through Express Account or at 866-422-6833. Each order is limited to a $25 value. Online orders must be placed by 4 am on Monday for same-week delivery, while telephone orders must be submitted by Thursday at 3 pm for delivery the following week. You may send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at $8.00.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate.

Inmates can access telephones in their housing units from 7 am to 11:30 pm. However, phone privileges are revoked if the inmate is locked down during these hours. Inmates can purchase phone minutes through the commissary, and friends and family can also buy phone time through ICSolutions.com or by calling 888-506-8407. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Montcalm County Jail imposes a daily housing fee for sentenced inmates as per Michigan P.A. 118 and the Sheriff's directives. Inmates are also responsible for any incurred medical costs, indigent fees, and costs for damaged property. Invoices are issued upon release, and debts not settled within 90 days are referred to the Mid-Michigan Collection Bureau.

For inmates sentenced with "Work Release Authorized" by the 64B District Court or 8th Circuit Court, a Work Release Application must be completed and submitted to the program coordinator prior to approval. The sentencing order must explicitly state "Work Release Authorized," and inmates must adhere to the Montcalm County Jail work release program guidelines. Approval is not guaranteed and may take several days.

Approved work release candidates must pay their first week's work release fee and room and board before starting their work. A deposit of $115.50 is required in the inmate's account. The Work Release Application can be downloaded and completed before incarceration to expedite the process and minimize workday loss.
