The Nassau Co Jail is a detention center located at 76212 Nicholas Cutinha Rd Yulee, FL which is operated locally by the Nassau County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Nassau County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Yulee Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

When an individual is arrested in Nassau County, they are brought to the booking desk of the Nassau County Jail for processing. This process includes property inventory, booking, medical screening, and cell assignment, all of which must be completed before the individual is considered for release or visitation. Intake processing and identification clearance are conducted as promptly as possible. Once an inmate is cleared for release, they return to the booking desk for final processing, which includes property inventory, handling of monies and bonds, and other necessary steps. Release times can vary.

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) utilizes certain county inmates, who are serving sentences for their convictions, to work on specific projects. These projects include the repair of public roads, bridges, and other public works within the county. Inmates may also be assigned to other projects that the Sheriff or Board of County Commissioners deem necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of the county. The work hours for inmate crews are limited to a maximum of 10 hours per day.

Medical care, emergency dental care, and mental health services are available to inmates, with some health services provided by external agencies as necessary. Referrals are made when needed to ensure inmates receive appropriate care. If an inmate has a chronic condition such as high blood sugar or high blood pressure, it is important to provide all necessary information, including prescribed medications and contact details for the treating doctor or clinic, as well as the pharmacy.

Commissary services are available to inmates through a private contractor, Keefe Commissary. To place funds on an inmate’s account for commissary purchases, there are three options: using the kiosk machine in the jail lobby (cash only), calling Keefe at 1-866-345-1884, or logging onto [Access Corrections](https://www.accesscorrections.com/V2/home) to place funds online. The commissary is delivered once a week, and items available for purchase are listed on the Commissary Kiosk machines accessible to inmates.

Each housing area has a telephone that allows collect-calls only (except calls to the public defender’s office.) All charges must be accepted by the person the inmate is calling. Depending on the type of phone service, some individuals contacted by an inmate may not be able to accept their calls. If this should occur, the individuals may contact GTL Customer Service and establish an account. To get the calls at the lowest rate, click here to see if you are eligible.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate.

Inmates experience a different environment from their usual one, affecting their diet, exercise level, and stress. The medical staff considers these factors when adjusting medications. For any questions concerning an inmate's health care, the medical unit can be contacted at (904) 548-4043.

The NCSO ensures that these processes and services contribute to the overall safety, health, and well-being of both the inmates and the community.
