This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. CCC is a minimum-security prison for adult males, accommodating 284 inmates with an additional 46 spaces provided by a modular unit. The facility includes a 40-bed single-cell segregation building for misdemeanants with serious felony charges pending and those in disciplinary segregation. Inmates reside in one of three dormitories.
CCC offers a range of educational opportunities, including GED and adult basic education classes, vocational training, and substance abuse treatment. Fatherhood and parenting programs are also available to inmates. Caldwell Community College collaborates with the prison to provide vocational and academic classes, enhancing inmates' skill sets and educational attainment.
Inmates can participate in various work assignments, such as road crews, facility maintenance, custodial work, landscaping, and kitchen duties, contributing to their rehabilitation and acquiring valuable job skills. Counseling services, as well as bible studies, are facilitated through the Chaplain's office, supporting inmates' mental and spiritual well-being.
The history of Caldwell prison dates back to the late 1930s when it housed medium custody adult males involved in road building. Over the years, the facility changed, including housing minimum custody of male youth from 1977 to 1981. In 1994, the prison began housing state prisoners in county jails, eventually leasing space in out-of-state prisons and other county jails until the construction of new prisons. The lease agreement with Burke County, providing space for 88 state prisoners, ended in June 1998.
To aid inmates' successful reintegration into the community, CCC offers various programs and initiatives. These include the MAPP program, incentive wage positions, substance abuse programs such as AA and NA, self-help and character education enrichment, reasoning and rehabilitation sessions, and the F.A.T.H.E.R. Accountability program. Additionally, community volunteer programs, home leave programs, and re-entry life planning sessions contribute to inmates' transition back into society.

Caldwell CI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Visits to NCDPS offenders are by appointment only. Call the prison where the offender is housed to schedule an appointment. Visitors should call the prison the day before a scheduled visit to confirm the facility's visitation status. Also, video visitation now is available at most but not all prisons, so family and friends may be able to do a virtual visit if they prefer. Call the prison for additional information on video visitation at the facility.
Visitation by family and friends is encouraged and can make a positive difference during an offender's time in prison. Prison staff understand the importance of offenders maintaining contact with their family and friends. However, offenders can not be assigned to specific facilities within the prison system for the convenience of visitation.

The increased safety and security measures are implemented to address, and ultimately eliminate, the introduction of contraband into state prisons. Any refusal to comply with all search procedures will result in the denial of entrance into the facility. Cell phones are considered contraband and are prohibited from all prison facilities. Appropriate attire is required.
