Communication is important, the prison offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

WNMCF, situated in Cibola County, consists of two distinct facilities catering to different offender populations. The first facility serves as both the Reception and Diagnostic Center for female offenders and houses Level III-General Population and Level IV-General Population female inmates under the purview of the New Mexico Corrections Department. At WNMCF, the emphasis is on facilitating re-entry into society through comprehensive programs focused on education, employment opportunities, and peer education initiatives.

In addition to its female-oriented programs, WNMCF also operates a medium-custody male facility, boasting a capacity of 673 beds. Originally operated privately, this facility underwent a significant transition in November 2021, shifting to public operation under the management of the state. This transition marks a strategic realignment of operational responsibilities aimed at enhancing the facility's efficacy in meeting the evolving needs of its inmate population and furthering the objectives of the corrections department.

With its multifaceted approach to offender rehabilitation and reintegration, WNMCF plays a pivotal role in the correctional landscape of New Mexico. By providing a structured environment conducive to personal growth and skill development, the facility strives to equip inmates with the tools and resources necessary to navigate successful transitions back into their communities upon release. Through its commitment to fostering education, employment readiness, and peer support, WNMCF endeavors to break the cycle of recidivism and promote positive outcomes for individuals within its care.

As part of its re-entry initiatives, WNMCF offers a range of educational and vocational programs tailored to the unique needs and aspirations of its inmate population. These programs not only equip individuals with valuable skills and knowledge but also instill a sense of purpose and self-worth essential for successful reintegration into society. Furthermore, peer education programs foster a supportive community within the facility, enabling inmates to learn from one another's experiences and perspectives.

By transitioning the medium-custody male facility from private to public operation, WNMCF demonstrates a commitment to accountability, transparency, and the effective stewardship of taxpayer resources. This strategic decision aligns with broader efforts to optimize the delivery of correctional services and ensure equitable access to rehabilitative programs for all individuals within the state's correctional system. As WNMCF continues to evolve and adapt to changing demographics and societal needs, it remains steadfast in its mission to promote public safety, facilitate offender rehabilitation, and support successful reintegration into the community.
