This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. The GCF, situated in Greene County and operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, commenced operations in 1984, accommodating 1,600 inmates at medium security, including 171 in a maximum security unit. Adjacent to Coxsackie Correctional Facility, originally established in 1935, Greene houses challenging offenders in a fifteen-bed special housing unit or a 200-bed isolation unit known as S-Block.

Inmates at Greene CF may participate in the Correctional Industries program, offering customer service for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, with eligibility contingent on possessing a high school diploma or GED and having over a year left until parole eligibility. Additionally, vocational training opportunities include building and custodial maintenance, horticulture, masonry, printing, small engine repair, painting, computers, commercial arts, HVAC, and electrical systems. The facility also offers alcohol and substance abuse treatment for inmates.

Encouragement for educational advancement is provided to incarcerated individuals, who can pursue adult basic education or a GED. Moreover, inmates have access to college courses offered in partnership with nearby Siena College, enabling them to earn credits towards a Bachelor's Degree.

Visiting Days: Weekends and Holidays

Visiting Hours for General Population: 9:00AM to 3:30PM (Earliest arrival time 7:30AM, Latest arrival time 2:00PM)

Special Housing Unit/Residential Rehabilitation Unit Visiting Days & Hours: Incarcerated individuals in SHU/RRU custody are allowed one non-legal visit within a seven (7) day period. Each week begins on a Saturday and ends on a Friday. Visiting Hours: 5:00PM to 9:00PM, Saturdays (Latest arrival time 7:30PM).

Visitation Schedule: Visits are divided into specific segments of the population by last digit of the DIN. See attached schedule (updated 11/2023)

2024 Visitation Schedule

Maximum Number of Visits per Day: One (1) visit per visiting day

Maximum Number of Visitors per Visit: Three (3) visitors and one (1) child under the age of five (5) will be allowed to visit. The child must sit on an adult’s lap.

Visiting Room Overcrowding Policy: In the event that space considerations require termination of visits, the following procedure will be followed:

1) Request voluntary termination from any visitor first.

2) If no volunteers, local visitors will be asked to leave taking into consideration the three (3) hour limit.
