When someone you care about ends up in a state prison, it can be tough to navigate the ins and outs of the system. From figuring out how to stay in touch to understanding what you can do to make their time easier, it can feel overwhelming. That's where this webpage comes in handy. It's here to help you get the lowdown on ODOC - Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center (JEHCC) so you can stay connected and support your loved one during their time inside.

Communication is important, the prison offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

Nestled in Hodgen, the JEHCC boasts a rich history rooted in service and rehabilitation. Originally established as the home of the Civilian Conservation Corps, this sprawling complex later served the U.S. Forest Service and Hodgen Job Corps before transitioning into its current role as a correctional facility. Since its transformation into a prison in 1971, JEHCC has been at the forefront of correctional vocational training, offering a wide range of vocational-technical programs to its inmate population. Initially known as "Camp Hodgen," the facility provided vocational training in various fields such as electrical work, welding, and construction. In 1973, it was renamed Ouachita Correctional Center, reflecting its expanding role in offender rehabilitation. Today, JEHCC stands as the largest correctional vocational training program in the state, boasting an extensive Career Tech program encompassing eight skill areas. From Construction Technology to Industrial Electricity, inmates have access to comprehensive training designed to equip them with valuable job skills and knowledge essential for successful reintegration into society. In addition to its vocational programs, JEHCC's education department offers a diverse array of educational opportunities to its inmates. From literacy and Adult Basic Education to college-level courses and GED preparation, the facility is committed to empowering individuals with the tools and resources necessary to pursue academic and personal growth. In 1998, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections honored the legacy of State Senator James E. Hamilton by renaming the facility Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center. Senator Hamilton played a pivotal role in securing the site for the state, underscoring his dedication to public service and commitment to addressing the needs of Oklahoma's correctional system. Through its comprehensive programs and steadfast commitment to offender rehabilitation, Jim E. Hamilton Correctional Center remains a beacon of hope and opportunity for individuals seeking a second chance. By providing inmates with access to education, vocational training, and reentry programs, JEHCC strives to foster positive change and pave the way for successful reintegration into society.

Visitation days are Saturday and Sunday and state holidays unless the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday. If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the regular visiting schedule applies.

Important Note: All inmate visitors must submit a “Visitor Request Form." You can download a copy here, or request one from the facility. Background checks will be completed on everyone 18 or older. The inmate will notify you when the process is complete. The approval process takes approximately 8 weeks once the Visitor Request Form has been returned to JEHCC.
